Udara & Chandula
Udara & Chandula tied the knot on January 18th, 2024 at The Blue Water hotel in Wadduwa, in beautiful Sri Lanka. The Blue Water Hotel is a 5-star luxury accommodation in Sri Lanka, designed by the world-renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa, featuring breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. Nestled among Wadduwa’s wild coconut groves, this serene, laid-back paradise boasts stunning sunsets and tranquil surroundings, making it the perfect destination for a luxurious beachfront wedding. Udara tells us, “We chose Sri Lanka because, Chandula and I both were born and raised there and most of our family still lives there. Even though we’ve been in Australia for the longest time, Sri Lanka is still home for us.”
Chandula had a romantic proposal in store for Udara, she tells us, “Chandula had been talking about this Asian restaurant he went to with his work mates, and he was telling me it was this fancy place and we should try it out. So we decided to go for dinner and the whole time we were getting ready Chandula was telling me I should dress fancy because it was this really nice place. I put on a dress, heels, makeup and did my hair and was all set to go. When we got there it was this really tiny restaurant, not fancy at all and was filled with really old people. I was so annoyed that he got me to dress up. He was laughing the whole time, and I was complaining and really angry. We had dinner, I was annoyed the whole time and then he wanted to have dessert. I just wanted to go home the whole time and to make it up, he took me to favourite Greek donut place in Hawthorn, I was very tired and fell asleep on the ride home. When we got home Chandula was acting weird, and normally I’d take my shoes off in the car and that night he didn’t let me. When I walked up to the front door I heard some music and I looked at Chandula, then a couple of our friends opened the door. When I walked in, the whole place was decorated with flowers and candles. I was sobbing the whole time, he got down on one knee, gave a tiny speech and asked me to marry him in front of my family and our really close friends. I’ve always said that I wanted my partner to propose to me at home. It was beautiful and everything I wanted.”
Belle et Blanc bride ‘Udara’ picked the ‘Blake’ fit and flare wedding gown, with lace and beading. Udara tells us how she came to choose her beautiful gown, “It was the most beautiful experience. Donna, my dress fitter, helped me throughout the whole process. She was so nice and made me feel so beautiful. I wanted some changes done on the dress, so while I was trying it on she did her best to show me how the dress will look at the end with those changes.”
The wedding day was such a wonderful day, accompanied by their nearest and dearest friends and family from near and far. Udara tells us, “We were so calm and relaxed on the day of the wedding thanks to our parents and wedding planner who overlooked everything for us. Before our wedding, so many of our friends told us that we won’t be able to enjoy our food, because there’ll be so much happening. On the day we told Suranga, that no matter what, we want to enjoy our food, she made sure that we ate everything. We had a large buffet and we were so glad we got to try everything. We got married at The Blue Water hotel in Wadduwa. It’s a beautiful hotel by the beach. Chandula and I both love the beach, so we decided to have our ceremony by the beach and reception indoors. We had the most amazing wedding planner, Suranga from weddings by Suranga. She did all the preparations for us. The first time we met her, we told her how we’ve always imagined our wedding, and she brought our imaginations to life. It was even better than we imagined. She had thought of every single detail. We didn’t have to worry about anything.The first time we saw everything was on the day, we had no idea how everything was going to turn out. We had a beautiful wedding with all our family and friends. Except my Mum and sister-in-law, no one knew what kind of wedding dress I’d be wearing. Seeing everyone’s reactions to the dress was the most beautiful thing to see. We had over 450 guests, some travelled across oceans to be there with us.”
